I'll take this one. Expect initial comments within a few days. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:35, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Let's begin with infobox and lead section assessments.

Infobox

[edit]

Lead

[edit]
  • Don't use genre in opening sentence as you've currently done. It would be better to just say "an American singer" before using subsequent sentences to discuss the type of music she has worked with.
  • The producer from "an introduction to a producer who signed her to his Nashville label" should be mentioned by name, and same goes for "manager" from "a series of business conflicts with her manager"
  • "Over the next several decades she lived in various states" seems like it's missing a comma after "decades"
  • "switched careers"..... be specific

I'll be back with more later. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:34, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Early years

[edit]

The rest will probably be done section-by-section. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 00:50, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Career

[edit]

1962–69: R&B beginnings and musical shift

[edit]
  • Four digits are preferred for years as more complete and professional than two digits
  • While this does mention that "A Little Tear (Was Falling from My Eyes)" didn't get promoted, it doesn't say or even suggest that this was why it wasn't successful. Just note its lack of success without bringing in an unsupported implication.
  • "Despite limited success" gives a false impression that success levels have anything to do with performance frequency (people can play music live without making much or any money from that)
  • Move File:Linda Martell--Ebony.jpg towards the top of this subsection so it doesn't leak into the next one. On another note, I'm not seeing any copyright issues with it.

Up next will be the 1969–1974 period. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 00:25, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1969–74: Country music success

[edit]

Not too bad so far. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 15:25, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1975–present: Other music opportunities and career switch

Pretty good section overall. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 15:39, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Artistry and influence

[edit]
  • File:Linda Martell--Color Him Father--audio.ogg is too long per WP:SAMPLE at 24 seconds long for a track that runs for 160 seconds (which equals 2 minutes and 40 seconds). Audio clips of songs should never exceed 10% of its duration (with 30 seconds being the absolute maximum).
  • More MOS:CURLY with "It’s" from "It's still a thing today"
  • Is the "first black artists to have commercial success" more based on show performances (where she broke racial barriers with the Grand Ole Opry)? That seems like a more accurate gauge for popularity than using component charts.

Getting closer to the end. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 15:52, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Overall

[edit]
  • Prose: Some copyediting is needed
  • Referencing: Not all content is sufficiently attributed, and certain citations aren't properly formatted
  • Coverage: A bit more detail could be given on family
  • Neutrality: I couldn't find any bias
  • Stability: Looks good
  • Media: One questionable image, and the audio sample needs to be reduced or removed entirely
  • Verdict: Placing the nomination on hold for seven days. I believe my concerns can be resolved within that time. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 17:03, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SNUGGUMS: I will revise this today and tomorrow. Thanks! ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 12:53, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure, and I look forward to seeing your improvements :) SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 12:59, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SNUGGUMS: Thank you for your suggestions and constructive criticism! I went ahead and made all the changes I could make. Please see above. ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 22:15, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did a bit of copyediting and adjusted some citations here. It's now GA-worthy, so congrats on getting this up to par! SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:40, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
